As part of the Pride of Place Malmesbury Sanctuary Garden, we present the exhibition Meadow Study on the railings in Birdcage Walk. Developed by Caerbladon in partnership with MAGIC (Malmesbury Area Green Impact Community) and Fruitful Malmesbury, we have created a temporary ‘sanctuary garden’ in Birdcage Walk as a place of contemplation and project activities such as nature walks and talks. Featuring the Talking Soil Bench developed by Dr. Dan Evans and Meadow Study exhibition by artist and beekeeper Anna Sellen.
Anna Sellen is a photographic artist based in Wales. Her work straddles conceptual and documentary photography with focus on themes relating to the natural landscape, climate change and personal histories.
Her environmental artwork draws on her local case studies and wider research to link to the global ecological situation. She is interested in the power of human actions to reshape our environment and how we can re-imagine our active agency to protect and value our reciprocal relationship with nature.
For 'Meadow Study’ Anna works with her honeybees to create a botanical photo study of the local meadows they visit. Her local case study is a reflection on the state of the meadow habitats countrywide. Ninety seven percent of wildflower meadows have been lost in the UK and flower-rich grassland habitat is now less than 1% of UK land. Meadow Study is a visual representation of this tipping point.
Meadow Study exhibited nationally and won Sidney Nolan Trust Prize at Earth Photo 2023.
